Driving Miss Daisy Nelson Bay day trip to Blackbutt Reserve

Driving Miss Daisy is far more than just a Driving Service. 🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙🌼🚙 Recently, Driving Miss Daisy Nelson Bay took a client out for a day trip and picnic to Blackbutt Reserve. They walked along the boardwalk and enjoyed looking at the various enclosures, learning about some of our native animals and trying to find the ones that were hiding. Phone cameras and video were great to capture some of the beauty on the day and watch it later in the week. The Peacocks kept interrupting their picnic lunch. They even had the nerve to perch up on the bathroom block 😅 it made for a very strange bathroom break before returning home again. Driving Miss Daisy Wollongong Central attended the 10th Illawarra Annual Dementia Forum.

In September, Bethany from Driving Miss Daisy Wollongong Central had the pleasure of attending the 10th Illawarra Annual Dementia Forum. The Dementia Forum was well attend, in part because virtually everyone  knows someone living with Dementia in one of its many forms. Sometimes the needs of a person with Dementia means that Daisy services are help and care for the occasion. Bethany had a wonderful day gaining more knowledge to help support clients and understand what other services are available for both dementia sufferers and those as carers.  Making Connections was the theme of the day and connecting with community and other local service providers is what they did!!

Exploring Op Shops with Driving Miss Daisy Burnside

It was an exciting day when our Burnside SA region Daisy, Pete, took his retired RAN Officer client, David and his coordinator out to visit three op shops, looking for a replacement for the plate he had broken from his set. They had a lovely drive to the op shops with David telling stories about his time in the Royal Australian Navy on HMAS Melbourne, Australia’s third and largest aircraft carrier. As David has mobility difficulties the plan was that Pete, plate in hand, would walk in and around each antique shop looking for an identical plate to  replace the broken one. After visiting the three op shops, with David preferring to remain in the car, Pete realised David’s real reason for the trip – lunch at the Largs Pier Hotel where they had Guinness Pie on the menu! As Pete said, “We had a wonderful day assisting a veteran. I was totally engrossed in David’s stories and felt privileged listening to his shared memories.” Call Pete on 0460 306 553. Channel 7 Local News Story for Driving Miss Daisy Mackay North

A week before Driving Miss Daisy Mackay North officially opened its doors, the team received an outpouring of support on social media from friends, family and the local community. This enthusiastic response caught the attention of Channel 7 Local News, who decided to feature the new franchisee in a special story. To bring their services to life, the team filmed a touching segment featuring a shopping trip with Connie, a cherished friend and first unofficial client to Mackay North. Connie, who has a long-standing connection with the franchisee, kindly agreed to be part of the story, demonstrating the personal and caring touch that Driving Miss Daisy brings to its clients. The heartwarming story aired on local news and was also shared on Channel 7’s Facebook page, where it quickly garnered over 39,000 views. This wonderful exposure has truly helped the franchise become a known name in the local community. Justine's Wonderful Recent Trips - Driving Miss Daisy Nerang

At Driving Miss Daisy, it’s our privilege to be part of the moments that matter. One recent Sunday, Justine from Driving Miss Daisy Nerang had the honour of accompanying a lovely 90-year-old lady on a special journey, a two and a half hour trip to celebrate the 90th birthday of her childhood friend.  It was only after the booking that she discovered a beautiful coincidence – the birthday lady was the mother of one of our own team members from Driving Miss Daisy Tablelands. It was a truly heart-warming day and we are proud of our Daisies for helping to make the reunion possible.  The following weekend, one of Justine’s regular clients needed support when her family, who usually care for her, fell ill with COVID and were unable to assist. Their first call was to Justine and she was more than happy to step in. They spent a wonderful weekend together; shopping, enjoying a scenic drive through the hinterland to see the dam, stopping for coffee and ending with a visit to the beach.  It’s days like these that remind us why we do what we do. We’re more than just transport. We’re family when family can’t be there™, here to make life easier, brighter and full of connection.

Walking Basketball Tournament – Driving Miss Daisy Gosford

Niagara Park Stadium recently came alive with the annual Walking Basketball Tournament, welcoming teams from across the region (including some coming all the way from the Illawarra) for a day of fun, fitness and community for people of all abilities. Among the players was our Daisy, Gary, from Driving Miss Daisy Gosford, proudly taking to the court and embracing the event’s inclusive, social spirit. Designed as a low impact version of basketball, Walking Basketball is perfect for people with limited mobility, those recovering from injury or anyone wanting to stay active in a friendly, supportive environment. Gary reflected on the event, saying, “It was a great day with plenty of laughs, friendly competition and a chance to meet new people. Walking Basketball is a fantastic way to stay healthy and social – and it’s easier on the knees!” Matt Smith, Operations Manager of Central Coast Waves Basketball, added, “I’ve known Gary for many years and I can see the passion he has not only for basketball but for supporting older people and people with disabilities in staying active and socially connected. We appreciated Gary and Driving Miss Daisy’s support of this event.” Congratulations to everyone who took part and made the day a true celebration of community spirit – the future of walking basketball is looking bright!

Disability Providers Networking Event – Driving Miss Daisy Cairns Northern Beaches & Tablelands

The Driving Miss Daisy team were proud to have recently had both our Cairns Northern Beaches and Tablelands teams attend a fantastic networking event for Disability Providers, hosted by the Cairns Disability Network in the beautiful Cairns Regional Council Courtyard. It was a special milestone for Driving Miss Daisy Cairns Northern Beaches as it was their very first networking event! Sukhi from Cairns Northern Beaches said, “We’re excited to be building meaningful partnerships and becoming part of a supportive network that truly puts people first.” The event was a wonderful opportunity for our Daisies to connect with local providers, share our vision and introduce Driving Miss Daisy Cairns Northern Beaches to the wider community, right alongside Trish from Driving Miss Daisy Tablelands. Here’s to many more moments like this as we continue to grow, connect and make a difference – one friendly ride at a time!

Ladies Day Out – Driving Miss Daisy Goulburn Region

Marcia from Driving Miss Daisy Goulburn Region recently had the pleasure of supporting some wonderful ladies from the Goulburn Families of Veterans Guild as they attended a social event at the National Arboretum in Canberra. Several groups from the area came together for a catch-up and lunch, making it a fantastic opportunity to connect. They enjoyed a scenic drive, taking in the breathtaking views of Canberra from the lookout, exploring the charming gift shop and strolling through the beautiful Bonsai Gardens. The ladies were especially impressed by the accessibility in the Gardens, with well-designed paths leading to the lookout and 30 disability parking spaces close to the entrance, making it a great destination for visitors of all ages and abilities. The Goulburn Families of Veterans Guild is always looking for more war widows, families and partners to join their monthly meetings and social events.
