Niagara Park Stadium recently came alive with the annual Walking Basketball Tournament, welcoming teams from across the region (including some coming all the way from the Illawarra) for a day of fun, fitness and community for people of all abilities.
Among the players was our Daisy, Gary, from Driving Miss Daisy Gosford, proudly taking to the court and embracing the event’s inclusive, social spirit. Designed as a low impact version of basketball, Walking Basketball is perfect for people with limited mobility, those recovering from injury or anyone wanting to stay active in a friendly, supportive environment.
Gary reflected on the event, saying, “It was a great day with plenty of laughs, friendly competition and a chance to meet new people. Walking Basketball is a fantastic way to stay healthy and social – and it’s easier on the knees!” Matt Smith, Operations Manager of Central Coast Waves Basketball, added, “I’ve known Gary for many years and I can see the passion he has not only for basketball but for supporting older people and people with disabilities in staying active and socially connected. We appreciated Gary and Driving Miss Daisy’s support of this event.”
